Verses 189-193THE OCCASION OF REVELATION

ONLY GOD KNOWS THE HIDDEN (VERSE NO. 188)

There is no doubt that man can attract some gain for himself and repel some loss; but all the power that he has to use for both, comes to him from his Lord, who can vanquish that power or increase it. In other word; man does not have absolute or intrinsic power, and what he may do depends on the will of God, and when God speeds him, everything is possible, but if God stops him he cannot move a step further.

Here, absolute and intrinsic knowledge of the prophet in knowing the absent and the unseen, has been negated.

This negated knowledge is the intrinsic one which may exist in his soul or essence, and not coming from outside. But Allah does inform His prophet in particular, and any of His creatures in general, of what may happen in future, or past or that which is hidden from general perception, the unseen.

The ending of the verse points at the main duty of the prophet:

``I am only a warner, and giver of glad- tiding to the people who believe.'' The prophet is a warner to all mankind, inviting them to faith, though all of them will not accept it. He also gives good news to those who have faith.
