THEIR ABSENCE IS BETTER THAN THEIR PRESENCE AND EXISTENCE

(VERSES NO. 46 - 48)

The argument continues to prove the last phrase in which they were accused of lying:

Had they been not liars, and were waiting for your permission to join as they claim it, they at least should have made some preprations for that long journey. Not So! They are only some dark minded men, whose hearts are sealed and Allah prevents them the honour of taking part in the expeditions of truth and justice. Their prevention of such blessing is appropriate for them, and it is the result of their evil motives and mischiefs.

On the other hand, their absence from the sacred field, has no room for pity and sorrow. Even if they had come out with the believers, they would add nothing to their power.

On contrary, they would create doubt, anxiety and disorder among the troops. This is because their first aim was to pierce into the inner circle of the believers, in order to increase their chances of intrigues and agitations. They were not the men of risks, or willing to jeopardize their safety by taking part in dangerous affairs.

In the third verse above, the believers are warned that this is not their first case of betrayal:

``Verily they sought to sow discord and create tumult in before too, and they turned things upside down for you....'' What they did in the battle of Ohud and elsewhere, should never be forgotten; and that, always their whole activities was directed to evil and mischief.

Here in these verses, the immediate reference is to the hypocrites in the life time of our prophet, but the lesson is general and for all times. In any reform and improvement, the hypocrites appear on the scene, and play their evil and dangerous role, so the leaders and the leaded must remain cautious and take care of them:

``Verily they sought to create disorder and tumult in before and upset things for you till the truth overcame and God's order prevailed.''
