Quran,Translation and Commentary in Brief (Vol. 05)
Verses 47-48Verses 43-46

The Pagan Arabs combatted against our prophet, as far as they could; armed, and unarmed. They accused the messenger of God of being mad, a poet, a sorcerer, and a man possessed.

To console His Messenger, and to encourage him to stand firmly against the oppressors, God inspired him with the following consolations:-

``Nothing is said to you of inadmissible charges that it was not said to the Messengers who were before you.''

Neither Mohammad's call to Monotheism was something new, nor the opposer's charges. One of the Arab's strange objection was; why Qurän was revealed in Arabic language if it was for all mankind to understand it? Of course they were anxious about their laymen and common people, who easily understood Qurän and adhered to it, and gathered around Mohammad (SA). They were the majority in Arabian peninsula, who welcomed the prophet and converted before the chiefs and high ups. These people were free from the chains of mammonism, worldliness, and love for rank and wealth.

It is indeed the most reasonable for the Messenger of God to speak in his people's language; because he has to explain his message in every detail, expressively and eloquently.

Mohammad (SA) was not sent exclusively for a certain group of people, or a nation like Arabs. His mission was to convey the Message of God to all mankind.

But the first group of people who received the Message, must have understood it well, so that they would be able to translate it to other nations. This is why Qurän was sent down in a very expressive Arabic language. We should also consider the fact that Arabic language is one of the most perfect languages in the world. It is indeed the richest of languages, and is full of allusions of words.

Advices, and recommendations regarding a course of conduct can only profit those who are willing to hear and consider. What is the use of a warning to a person who is either deaf or deliberately closes his ear, and does not want to listen to a well-wisher.

The Holy Qurän is indeed a cure and a guidance, but for those who believe. To the unbelievers the Book is some sort of a veil or cover of blindness. They have a heaviness in their ears as if they hear it from a far distance!
