The Book of deeds in the right or left handThe Guardian Angels

The 10th verse speaks about the writers of the book of deeds and that they have a vast knowledge. It says:

“But verily over you (are appointed angels) to watch you. Honorable inscribers writing (your deeds).”

The word “Hafizeen” denotes the angels who are the guardian over the deeds of men and not for saving him from other events.

God has described four attributes of these angels and each is interlinked with the other. The first is that they guard the human’ deeds and they are termed as kind in the plural sense that speaks about their greatness. Though their duty is to note the deeds of the people but they do not do this with reluctance but with kindness.

Some people have said that they are prominent because they immediately write the good deeds and a ten fold reward for it but delay writing the bad deeds. As we have learnt from the above Hadith the do this because that person deserves a chance to repent. It is also said they are kind in the sense that they take the good deeds to the heavens and speak about it to the angels there but hide the sinful deeds as per the commands of God who hides the sins of men.

Their kindness will result in a person being attentive to his deeds because no one wants to do something wrong in the presence of a kind and eminent person.

Their third attribute is “kaatibeen” that explains their guarding of the deeds of men. It is clearly said “They write all the deeds so that you must know that they omit nothing.”

Since you need awareness to observe and write their fourth attribute is described as “They all that you do” and this includes physical deeds, thoughts in the minds and their speech.

The word ‘Hafizeen’ has been used in the plural sense a pair of angels guard during the day and a pair during the night (as we see in some traditions (1)” or it is because the verse is addressed to all mankind so the angels are mentioned in the plural form.
