The following features have been discerned from the previous verses and hadiths:
The book of deeds is the result of the entire actions of a person and nothing has been left in it.
It is a record that speaks as a witness and cannot be denied. Every one can read it and judge even the sinners.
There are two angels who write the book of deeds and according to the Qura’n are named as “Raqeeb” and “A’teed”. As we have learnt from some of the tradition that there are separates sets of angels for the day and for the night. They transfer their duties. Qura’n has made a vague reference to this in some verses.
Some traditions tell us that there are other angels who inscribe some special deeds e.g. there is a hadith from the Holy Messenger that says:
“The angels sit on the gate of the mosques on every Friday and write the names of those who come serially. And when the Imam sits (to deliver the sermon) then they collect their writings and hear the message of God.” (1)
From some hadiths we learn that they note the good deeds immediately but delay writing the sins (giving him a chance to repent).
We end this discussion with a quote from Imam Sajjad recorded in hymns of Sahifa Sajjadia and we join our voice with his.
Imam prays to God:
“God! Make our deeds easy for those kind angels who write them. Fill our books of deeds with them and do not shame us before them because of our sinful deeds. (2) God! Praise Mohammad and his progeny. Consider and accept our last words as our repentance. (3)
