Another explanation that has come tens of times about the Day of Judgment in the verses of the Qura’n is the return to God or “Radd Ilalallah” There is a final verse to discuss about it which says, “Every soul shall taste death; then to Us will you all be returned.” This explanation, as we have already stated is found in many verses:

Verse 48 of Surah Maidah says, “To God alone is the return for all of you.”

Verse 28 of Surah Fajr says, “Return to you Lord! Well pleased (with him) and Him with you.”

Verse 8 of Surah Tariq says, “Verily He is able to resurrect him”

Verse 156 of Surah Baqarah that says, “Verily we are God’s and unto Him shall we return.”

Verse 8 of Surah Alaq that says, “Verily to your Lord (alone) is the return.”

The umpteen explanations in the Qura’n tell us that the Day of Judgment is a manner is the return to God. It means that some thing returns to from where it has come.

The question that arises here is that “How is this meaning relevant in the Qura’n; how is it that we have come from Him and we have to return to Him?”

Some commentators have presupposed a word or term regarding fate as an answer.

They say: It means that you have to return to His authority.

It is sometimes said to mean: “It is the duty of the people to return to the ruler” (1)

Will it be correct that we take a word to be removed from such verses? What is the need to add or to minus anything about fate? There is definitely something special in these verses which we need to search for and it will be prudent to return to the original creation of man to find an answer to this problem.

Qura’n says that God addressed the angels and said, (as in verse 29 of Surah Hijr) “So when I complete him and breathe My spirit into him; you should fall down to him prostrating.”

The spirit of God does not mean the soul that has been separated from Him because He is the necessary being and He is all-encompassing and free from all components in every way. What it means is that a great spirit which is one of God’s supreme creations is breathed into him (and this in Arabic is called “Izafa Tashrifia”

So the elevated spirit of mankind has been brought from the world above to this earthly world and it has been patched into the body of clay so that it can attain greatness and then leave it to return to the world above and to the Lord. It is correct that both the spirit and the body will return on the Day of Judgment but it should be noted that the soul will not return to the body but the body will revert to the soul and will attain greatness. The worldly defects of the body will not be present then, old age, discrepancies, pain, disease, tiredness and fragility will not be there. (Reflect).

Some Ulema have given a beautiful des c r i p tion about the return of the soul to the body:

They symbolize the human soul as a diver who attaches a heavy weight to his legs to dive into the water and return with priceless gems to be able to reach the depth required for it. He gathers the costly gems and then removes the weight from his legs to return easily to the surface of the water.” They say this is the real meaning of the word “Rujuu’” (Reflect)
