The Day the Trumpet will be blownThe Day the Skies Will Be Like Molten Metal

The above two des c r i p tions about the happenings in the skies explain the situation of that Great Day. In verse 42 of Surah Qaf the Book says:

“The Day they will hear the shriek is the Day of resurrection.”

We know that at the end of this world and the beginning of the hereafter there will be two greats shrieks which the Qura’n has termed as “Saiha”; it is at times said to be the blowing of the trumpet. The first shriek will bring death and silence to this world and the second will be the sound of the return. In the verse above it is the second shriek and the proof is that at the end of the verse it says that it is the day coming out.

What will be the nature of this shriek and how will it originate? Will it give a new life to the dead? Nothing is known for sure but Qura’n has referred to it fleetingly and secretly. It is not surprising that we do not discern anything about that day because every of the Day of Judgment is different to the present life. A cloud of mystery has covered it in the way it is impossible for the infant in the mother’s womb to understand this world even though we may assume that he has a great sense of perception.

In verse 45 of second Surah Tur the Book says:

“So leave them alone until they encounter their Day in which they shall be thunderstruck”

The word “Yus-aquun” is derived from “Is-a’q” which in turn is derived from Saiqa which also means a great cry and also becomes the cause of death so this verse has been explained in both the senses. If it means death then it reverts to the first explanation and the death of this universe as depicted in verse 68 of Surah Zumur that says:

“The trumpet will be sounded when all that is in heavens and the earth will swoon”

If it concerns the sound then it may be that the first or the second sound but the second sound will be for resurrection. Then this verse will be like the first verse.

Many commentators have preferred the first meaning though they have not over looked the second premise. (1)

As some have opined that it means the Battle of Badr and the death of the disbelievers is very farfetched and this contention is rejected by the above verse.
