The Day they will be forced into the fires of HellThe Day when the unjust will bite his hands

The Day the disbelievers will be exposed to the fire.

Here too two similar des c r i p tions are evident in two verses of Surah Ahqaf. Verse 20 says:

“The Day when those who disbelieved shall meet the fire.” And then adds: “You had your share of the good things of life in this world and you took your pleasure in them; this Day you will get the shameful punishment for what you used to do in arrogance and for the sins that you committed.”

Verse 34 of the same Surah says:

“They will be asked on the Day they shall be exposed to the fire, “Is this not justice?” and they will say, “Yes! By our Lord”

The second verse speaks about those beliefs that caused the infamy of these residents of Hell. The first verse speaks about the unlawful deeds and pleasure and the wrongful use of things that are lawful.

It should be noted that in some verse like 23 of Surah Fajr it is said, “And Hell is made to appear that Day” but here it says that the disbelievers will be taken to confront Hell. It is as if some magnetic force is acting between them. On the one side the Hell will pull them and on the other side they will hurry towards it.

The second des c r i p tion is about another aspect of the Day of Judgment. In verse 66 of Surah Ahzab God says:

“On that Day when their faces are turned into the fire they shall say “Oh! That we had obeyed God and His Messenger.”

The commentators have said many things about the faces being turned to fire. At times they have said that it means the changing of colors of the faces, sometimes yellow, sometimes red and some times black.
