B. A miracle does not mean an impossible deedThe Conclusion

As we have said before the word “E’jaaz” or “Mojiza” has not been used in the Qura’n as a specific term but has come with other des c r i p tions and connotations. We have already explained in this when we discussed the previous verses and here we are concerned not with linguistic jargons and meanings but the reality of the miracles or “E’jaaz”.

There is nothing wrong in discussion the meaning of the word “A’jaaz” to clarify the reason why the Ulema and scholars have chosen this particular word for a special meaning.

In Maqayis-0ol-Loghata two meanings have been given for the origin of the word “E’jaaz” which is “Ajz”; one is weakness of “Azzo’f” and “Aqabo Kulle shaiyyin” to follow something but Raghib has kept both the meanings to be same in Mafuradat. He has given the meaning of “Aqabo Kulle Shaiyin” as “to follow everything” because the weak follow others. The miracles of the Apostles of God denote power because no other person can do the same and they are unable to bring something equal to it. This is what is meant by a miracle.

According to the Ulema a miracle is something that has the following three conditions:

A deed that is extra-ordinary or abnormal and beyond the capacity of mankind and that people are totally unable to recreate something similar even the great Khalifas of their time.

These deeds are for the confirmation of a prophet or an Imam and in other words are the proof of their truthfulness.

This is manifest as a challenge. When people deny the chosen prophet of God they are dared to bring some deed like the miracle he has shown and the Qura’n has given this challenge many times. This it self is of Qura’n being a divine book. The same has been set as examples in the previous verses.

It is possible to come to a conclusion from the past events.

1. This cannot be imagined or guessed from the deeds of the commoner nor from scholarly claims e.g. we find a child barely 7 years old speaking or orating beautifully and this is example of eloquence. KAZMI

We can also doubt that the second child will also be like the first but it is impossible for a suckling babe to speak as eloquently as Jesus. Verse 30 of Surah Maryam says:

“He said, “I am a servant of God and He has given me a s c r i p ture and made me a prophet.”

It is possible that a scientist through some modern method can ripen the mangoes in a short time and this is possible through medicines and this scientist has definitely made a great discovery; though it is also possible that some other scientist may do the same; but to turn a dry and withered tree into a fruit bearing one in a moment is a challenge and a proof of the man’s claim to prophethood and a miracle.
