verse 13verses 11-12

DERISION, SUSPICION, BACKBITING, FAULT-FINDING, SPYING AND CALLING WITH TITLES ARE FORBIDDEN.
VERSE NO.11-12
QurÌn builds Islamic society on the foundation of moral principles. There are several evil conducts that may stir enmity and induce abhorence among which we may name abominations like derision, suspicion, backbiting, fault-finding, spying, and calling people with evil titles. These acts or qualities are strictly forbidden by Islam, and are unlawful for believers. Here the believers have been addressed and called to avoid them. In the framework of Islam no one can ever say:- ``I am better than the other'':-
``O, you who have believed? Let not a party of you scoff at another party-perhaps they might be better than them. Neither the women should scoff at other woman, perhaps they might be better than them. And do not look for other people's fault.''
It is also a sin to call other who have believed with unbecoming titles.
After the conquest of KHAIBAR; SAFFIYEH the daughter of HAI-IBN-AKHTAB, converted and became the prophet's wife. AISHA, the only young wife to prophet, once reproached her for being a Jewish born woman. She came to the prophet weeping, and informed him of the reproach.
The prophet consoled her and said:- ``Why did you not tell Aisha, that; your father was Moses, your uncle was Aaron, and your husband is Mohammad. Then the above verse revealed saying:-
``...and do not call others with evil titles. Too bad is the deed of calling someone with evil names after being a believer.''
Mutual ridicule is impoliteness, and must be avoided. Laugh with people may be some sort of happiness, but laugh at people is not. On the contrary, it may create enmity and hatred. It is possible that we may mock at someone who is in many things better than ourselves.
Another bad character is the fault-finding in others. Looking for fault in order to suggest a charge against someone is a really evil deed. Who is perfect and faultless other than God, our Forgiving Creator? It is not good to see a thorn in the foot of a brother without seeing a piece of wood in our own eye.
Spying into other people's affair is not the better a deed, and it is the outcome of suspicion, a spiritual disease that may kill Man's soul.
Biting people from behind, and speaking ill of them, when they are absent is an abomination like eating the carrion of your brother. It is indeed hateful, and shamefully vile a deed. QurÌn strictly forbids backbiting, but it too, has its own-exceptions:- When somebody, openly and frankly commits a heinuous sin; speaking about his open deeds is not backniting. Or even if you are going to marry a girl, and you ask someone who knows her well; ``How is she?'' If the advisors informs you of her faults or weak points; this is still not back-biting.
