A Brief Introduction in to the Life of Imam Íasan (Ýa)
Can you give us an introduction in to the life of Imam Íasan (Ýa)?
The second leader of the Shias was born in the middle of the holy month of RamaÃÁn, during the 3rd year HijrÐ, in the holy city of Medina. He was the son of Imam ÝAlÐ (Ýa) and the Lady FÁÔimah (Ýa), the daughter of the Holy Prophet (Ò) of Islam.
Imam Íasan (Ýa) was no older than seven when the Holy Prophet (Ò) passed away. After the passing of the Prophet (Ò), his father AmÐr al-MuÞminÐn (Ýa) lived for approximately another 30 years, until he was martyred in the year 40 HijrÐ. At this point, he was s e l e c ted for the divine station of the Imamate and he held this position for approximately 10 years until his martyrdom at the behest of MÙÝÁwÐya in the year 50 HijrÐ. He died at the age of 48 and was buried in the graveyard of BaqÐÝ in Medina.
