Verse 47VERSE NO. 46

ENJIL

(Just, as the Towrat is not the present Old- Testament; so is the Engil (Greek Evangel= Gospel), mentioned frequently in Quran, not, this present New- Testament. In Quranic litterature, Enjil is the original single Gospel which was sent down to Jesus Christ from God, and Jesus himself promulgated and taught it, as Towrat was announced by Moses, and Quran by Mohammad S.A. Fragments of the Engil survive in the received canonical Gospel, and in some other, such as the Gospel of St. Barnabas, which has not been accepted as canonical Gospel in the New- Testament which are four biographies of Jesus Christ... they are not all independant of each other, and neither of them was intended by its writer to form one of a quartette. They are all put side by side, unharmonised, one of them being actually imperfect at the end, and one being the first volume of a large work.

The four canonical Gospels were only four out of many, and some other besides the four which have survived so far, like that of St. Barnabas.

Among the miracles described, there is only one which is described in all the four Gospels, and others were described, and believed in, in other Gospels which are not mentioned in any of the four canonical Gospels.

These Gospels were in existence by the end of the second century A.D., but it does not follow that they had been selected by the date to form a canon. There were other Gospels besides, and further the writers of two of them Mark and Luke, were not among the 12 Disciples called by Jesus Christ.

About the Gospel of St. John; there is much controversies as to authorship, date, and even as to whether it was written by one person or more!

The final form of the New testament canon for the West was fixed in the fourth century A.D. by Athanasius and the Nicene creed. The beautiful codex which was acquired for the Brithish Museum in 1934, and which is one of the earliest complete manuscripts of the BIBLE is dated about the fourth century A.D. and it is written in Greek language.

Fragments of unknown Gospel have also been discovered which do not agree with the received canonical Gospel.
