VERSE NO. 23

Those who sold their Gracious God at the price of some inanimate and valueless pieces of stones that are the idols, will now see the vanity and the idleness of their false gods. What a pretext or excuse can they put forth, but to swear by Allah their Lord, that, they have not been polytheists.

As to the idolater such an oath is futile and useless. It will not be accepted and he has to join the blazing fire that his own deeds have kindled.

But as to people like the Christians who are afflicted by the calamity of TRINITY; there might be some room for excuses and more consideration. A Christian may also swear by Allah that he was a monotheist, and by Trinity he didn't mean three separate and independant gods; sticking to philosophy that by three I meant only one, and upon Allah our Lord, I was not a polytheist! At least he might have an excuse for discussion, though he is a polytheist too, but what answer can the all- lost idolator give, except in his perversity deny that he never entertained the notion of false gods.
