THE DIVINE HELPS (VERSES NO. 122 - 127)

The argument about the truthful believers and great gifts allocated to them, and about the obstinate unbelievers and their misfortune still continues:

Whom Allah intends to guide, He expands his breast to Islam.'' That is to say; the godly will find with each step, the next step easier, because Allah will widen his heart and mind and prepares him for development and progress. And contrary to this group:

``He whom Allah intends to leave astraying, He will make his breast contracted, as if he is ascending up to the sky.''

This is an expressive similitude, because as we climb up into the sky, we will find the air pressure to get lower and lower, as a consequence of which our lungs in our chest will shrink and contract accordingly. And so is the case with the unbeliever who is supposed to climb the spiritual ladder of progress- for him with every step the next one will seem more difficult to climb, and to take spiritual breath because his mind is contracted and limited.

There are few points here which are worthy of note:

      1) Repeatedly we have said in this book that God's guidance or astraying depends on man's deed and belief. Some by following the righteous ones and doing good deed will obtain merit for receiving God's guidance, while the wicked and evil doers deserve to go astray in a way that they have chosen by their free will.

      2) By, `SADR' translated here to chest, the heart and mind of man is wanted, and by its expansion the flight of thought and the rise of knowledge and perception in a wider horizon is meant.

In the next verse (No. 127) two great gifts of God are pointed at:

A- For them awaits the home of peace with their Lord, which is the Paradise, wherein there shall be no war, no blood-shed or even quarrel and hatred.

B- The second gift is their having God's guardianship. Their All-mighty and Merciful Lord is their guardian who looks after them, and will suffice them in all respects and aspects.
