VERSE NO. 138 - 139

Here are some more of the pagan's superstitious rules and rites, that they fabricated and attributed to God; concerning the domestic animals. They said:

1- Such and such animals and corps are taboo, and no one should eat them except those whom we permit. The pronoun, `We' may refer to the priests of the idols, because a taboo of certain food and flesh was most probably the device of the priesthood, to reserve special things for themselves.

2- And some animals dedicated to the idols were forbidden their backs, so that no one could ride on them or carry a load by them. So were these animals reserved of all useful works through man's folly. Their justification for that taboo, was the pretence and assertion of the priests that it was by God's will and was indeed a sacred rite which would consent the idols! And if anyone dared to object he would be excommunicated and debased in the society.

3- They also had some flesh animals dedicated to this and that idol. When such animals were slaughtered the name of Allah, their supreme God, was not to be pronounced on them; and naturally they were not killed by the solemn rites in God's name.

4- Another superstition of them was their saying:

``What is in the womb of certain dedicated animals, are specially for our males and forbidden for our females! But if the fetus was still- born (dead) both, man and woman could have their share!''

This taboo too, was not reasonable, and was indeed a pungent commandment, consisting of unjust discrimination between man and woman- dead fetus for woman, and if alive, it was for man!

The ending of the verse is an scathing irony that:

``Soon will Allah reward them for their false and forged explanations of God and His rules and commandments that Allah is the Knower of whatever they did or do.''
