Verses 19-22 VERSE NO. 12

SATAN WAS THE FIRST SYLLOGIST

VERSE NO. 13

To compare one thing with another by surmise and conjecture, without having enough reasons, is stritcly forbidden in Islam. By SYLLOGIST we mean; the comparison of a matter or thing with another matter or thing, that are similar in some aspects, and then decreeing an order for both of them through guessing. As an example; we may reason that perspiration, and passing urine, are both of the same nature in man, and are all the superfluities of our body. Therefore, when we take urine as something unclean, we must also consider our sweat unclean. If we avoid this, we should avoid the other one too! Then we may come to know how difficult it will be to avoid touching and getting contact with man and woman's sweat! This is not special for religious presumptions and deductions; Even a doctor strictly forbids his prescription for one of his patients to be used by others with the same disease.

Therefore Satan's fall was due to his surmise when he compared his own constructive material with that of Adam. He therefore fell down from his rank and position to a state degraded and banished:

``Allah said to him: `Away with you! Get you down from here. You have no right to be proud in it. Then get away that you are of the abased ones.''

What a bad misfortune his pride brought him! It is cited in an Islamic narration that, the main source, and principal cause of blasphemy is three; 1) Pride. 2) Avarice. 3) Jealousy.

Pride and selfishness caused Satan to rebel and disobey his Gracious God.

Avarice and avidity encouraged Adam to approach the forbidden tree and leave Paradise.

Jealousy raised the son of Adam to kill his own brother.

VERSES NO. 14 - 18

Satan did not stop in his way down in his fall. His pride led him to disobedience, and then instead of being repentant, and trying to amend; he made it worse by increasing obstinacy and showing more arrogance!:

``He asked God for a respite until the day when the deads are raised up again, as a reward of his previous worships among the angels - This request was granted to him.'' He could use the good opportunity of his respite to amend his fault and to improve his bad condition, but he even did not think of that! He said:

``NOw that you misled me, I will sit in ambush and hold snares on the straight way to which you may guide man. I will come before them and after them. I will come to them from left and right and surround and enclose them on all sides; so much so that you will not find most of them grateful to you.''

The assault of devil is from all sides, and he takes advantage of every weak point; but still we may say that he is not so predominant, so as to overrule man. He may tempt and decieve. He may allure man and invite him to do something wrong; but he can't do anything by force majeure. As a matter of fact, an enemy is not so bad as we may think. He is the best means to put our potentials and slept abilities to work. Devil, if we consider him as a dangerous enemy as he really is; he may rouse and excite to activity all the posibilities of man, and render him more attentive and active.

* * * * *

(Satan's parable is the likeness of a dog who is at watch at the gate of the house of a lord. If the dog sees a friend, (A BELIEVER) he shakes the tail as a sign of welcome, because he is sure that he can do nothing against the Lord and his friend - but when he sees a stranger to approach, the dog may either bark or bite!   TRANSLATOR'S NOTE)

After all; God has not left man or any other creature defenceless in front of enemies. Man is well armed against Satan. He is given wisdom and knowledge. He has the guidance of the prophets and their Scriptures. These are the weapons by which man can easily vanquish Satan.

VERSE NO. 18

At last God has given an end to the argument by saying to IBLIS:

``Away with you! Leave her despised and banished at once! As for those who follow your footsteps, I will fill up the Hell with you all!''
