CALUMNIES AND OBJECTIONS (VERSE NO. 184)

The prophet was one of them and of the same race. He had lived with them and among them for a life of forty years. As a young man, they themselves gave him the title of `TRUSTWORTHY', but as soon as he became a prophet, they began to accuse him of various charges, saying; he is a poet, he is influenced by the Jinns, that he is a magician, mad, and so and so.

This was because he believed differently from them, and in particular, because he disbelieved and despised their idols, fetishes, and other superstitious objects of worship. They charged him that he was cursed by the idols, and Jinns had afflicted him! They were saying so, because they did not reflect on him, and did not think a little about him and his ideal and behaviour:

``Do they not think that there is no madness in their companion, and that he is only a perspicuous warner?!''

Mohammad S.A. was a fellow- member of their tribe and society. He lived with them a lifetime, as you may say: a mate, a citizen, a companion, a fellow- traveller and at the best of it, as a friend and brother. He too, like almost all of them, did never meet with a teacher to show him the art of reading and writing. He did never attend a class room to study a subject, and remained unlettered and illiterate. But he was changed suddenly and wonderfully when he reached the age of forty! He was inspired by Allah; his only one Lord, Who is the creator of the universe and all being things! An amazing Book was given him through inspiration, which is QURAN, the present Holy Book of Muslims. Mohammad is not the writer of the Book. The author of Quran is Allah! The verses of the Book are so eloquent and beautiful, so significant and meaningful, and so miraculous, that easily attract attentions, and strike the learned minds with astonishment.

To this basis the world and all the Jinns and Men, are challenged to produce a Book like Quran, or even a chapter like it, but no one has been able to produce like the Holy Quran, or even like one of its chapters so far:

``Say, if men and Jinn gather together to produce the like of this Quran, they will not produce like it, even if they back up each other.'' Q S 17: 88

The Arabs who were developed in literature, were indeed amazed when they read the Quran inspired to Mohammad, and were perplexed in how to judge it!
