OCCASION OF THE REVELATION (VERSES NO. 36 - 37)

The verses revealed in the Battle of Badr on account of the financial assistances of the Meccan wealthy and leading men, which resulted in their own pity, regret, and final destruction and defeat.

They took no lesson on the incident of Badr, and once again they provided for employment of one thousand warriors, who waged a war against the prophet in the field of Ohud- a war that gave them a little victory at a very high price, once and for all.

Their lavish expenditures against Allah and His Messenger, at length resulted in their sorrow, pity, and defeat; and in their next life they recieved an eternal damnation. There are a few points to be noted in connection with these verses:

1- The verses imply that even before being vanquished or slain in the battle- field; or taken as captives; pity, and sorrow, and the mysterious reproaches of conscience, had seized their hearts. They had already apprehended that they had spent their power and wealth in vain and for nothing but misfortune! So their disbursement turned to sorrow and pity for them in this lower present life.

2- The verses also apply well to what is going on in our present world. The devilish forces of colonization, and unfair exploitations of people and nations, and the partials of corruption and immorality, and false religions and creeds, spend immense amounts of capitals and wealth to reach their goals, and to ruin the real and godly civilization of mankind. These Satanic forces may disguise their real faces by constructing hospitals and schools for charity, and even they may hide their harmful intentions beyond the walls of a church or a mosque, or under the mask of human rights. They are pleased to turn back the human life almost to that of the animal life and spoil humanity.

3- The Battle of Badr, and even OHUD could teach man very useful lessons. They were effective criteria that made distinct the power of evil from that of truth. At length the evil was overthrown and defeated, and those who had real faith and were truthful were separated from those who had not enough faith or were even hypocrites.

The Battle of Badr brought to an issue the fight between truth and falsehood, good and bad - a fight that will ever exist between the two parties and will sort out the unbelievers from the believers.

In that battle- field the forces of Satan were piled into a heap and were burried in a pit, and eventually were cast into the Hell and everlasting damnation:

``In order to make distinct the impure from the pure, and to put the impure upon one another, pilling them up, and then cast the whole lot into the Hell- they are the real losers.''
