SIX INSTRUCTIONS FOR WARFARE (VERSES NO. 45 - 47)

When Abusofyan managed to lead the caravan safe and secure to Mecca, he sent an urgent message to Abujahl the commander of their armed forces, saying: ``We have reached the destination safe and sound, and you need not to endanger our forces for nothing. You better return home as soon as possible, and avoid any contend with Mohammad's forces, because we are not sure enough of the consequences of any possible encounter.''

Abujahl! who was puffed up with vanity and pride, in answer to Abusofyan, said:``We shall not return until we reach the general market of Badr, and tarry there for three days, in order to take all the fun out of the occasion, by dancing and singing, and drinking; to show the Muslims, and the Medinans, how powerful, stabilized, and stable in purpose, we are:

``And do not be like those who set out from their homes with vanity and pretence to people....''

However the above verses contain six important instructions on account of warfare and Jihad as follows:

1- When you encounter a host stand firm and steadfast and do not get perplexed and puzzled.

2- Remember Allah too much. This remembrance is not merely to chant the names of Allah with the tip of your tongue rhythmically and repeatedly; but to ponder over His might and power, and to reflect on His infinite Mercy and Grace.

3- The third instruction is about the leadership and obeying God and His Messenger, who is also the general commander in this case under discussion. Obedience and discipline are considered as the two main factors of victory in warfare as the war veterans believe.

4- By the fourth commandment, discord, dispute, and variances, which are causes of disorder, are strictly forbidden. These may cause waste of power, and eventually bring about failure and humiliation. `Variance may make you to lose your wind', says the verse and prick your bubble. In fact, wind is power, particularly on the sea. Think of a favourable wind for our sailing ship.

5- Patience is the fifth order. It is bearing pains, and enduring trials, without complain. Being steadfast against the enemy, and undisturbed by obstacles, is always a means of victory in various fields of life.

6- And by the sixth commandment Muslims are wanted to avoid foolish acts, and do not get into a fuss about nothing; or doing things for show off to people and mere pretence - like ABUJAHL and his forces who set out from their homes with vanity and pride, only to show themselves off to people; and how sadly they met their doom!
