Verses 41-44Verses 34-40

The argument continues here on Solomon's story, and illustrates how a man may reach the most high stages of power and wealth, meanwhile having nothing of himself:-

``We tried Solomon and cast upon his throne a body without life! He then repented.''

According to some Islamic narrations, Solomon was very eager to have a son in order to become the successor of his throne of power. He had several wives and said to himself:-

``I will have sexual intercourse with all of them and then each of them will bear me a child.''

He said so, but did not utter the word, ``ENSHÄ-ALLAH'' which means, ``IF GOD WILLS=IF GOD SPEEDS'' which is a sacred word recommended in such cases.

Then only one of his wives gave birth to a child, and that was a lifeless body, which some one had put it upon his throne!

Seeing the lifeless body upon his throne, Solomon went deeply to himself, and apprehended, that he had forgotten his Lord in his plea. He therefore prostrated himself before God, and repented and begged his pardon, for the little negligence. After that, he asked his Lord to give him such a power that he would not misuse it, though others might not be able to refrain from misusing it.

As a matter of fact, all the power, wealth, glory and kingdom, which were given to Solomon were spiritual trials that could deviate anyone somehow from the straight way of God. But Solomon always remained loyal and faithful to his Lord and his Divine Ideals. Whatever he had in his charge, he used it at the service of his only One God and always observed the laws of truth.

Allah had given to Solomon many wonderful gifts which served also as his miracles; because every prophet had to show some sort of a miracle, to testify the truth of his claims. Among those gifts of God to him were:-

1- Allah subjected the wind to him to flow gently and swiftly at his order, wherever he wished to go.

What sort of a mysterious means had he for his swift transport, which the source of its energy was air motions we really know not. We only know that travel by the air was one of his miracle.

2- Unruly creatures, demons, devils, and Jinns, were made submissive to him, and he made use of them in construction and diving.

3- He was so rich that he could bestow or with hold his gifts, as much as he wanted.

4- And after all, he had a noble position with God, and was dear and near to his Lord.
