Verses 21-22Verses 18-20

The description and discourse of Resurrection Day still continues here by naming it, ``THE DAY WHICH IS NEAR''.

It is called a day near, that the unbelievers might not think it to be too far.

Near and far, short and long, are all relative matter; and relativity includes time and space too. For Allah Who is the Essence of Existence, past and future make no difference, and all are at present. As soon as we die and put away our material body, our Essence or what you may call it our Soul, will get out of time and space; and then we will not understand past or future. We shall see everything at present. Therefore one million year and one millionth of a year, will have no difference in our sight! We therefore may conclude that Resurrection Day is very near to us, and it begins with our death.

What of the Seven Sleepers, who slept for more than three centuries, but when they woke up, they thought to have slept only for a fraction of a day! This is the nature of sleep that a sleeper feels neither time nor space.

So the Resurrection Day may long some thousands of years or more with our measure, but in the sight of God it lasts in a twinkle of an eye! He is well aware of everything and also:-

``He knows the treachery of the eyes, and all that the hearts may conceal.''

It may happen that some one sternly looks at something, but he pretends to have ignored itِthis is called the treachery of the eyes. Looking at whatever which is forbidden to look at, and then denying the look, is a kind of hypocrisy and betrayal.

Treachery of the eyes will also include looking at a friend's wife with lusts; or casting a despising or fault finding look at those who trust us, or giving hints by twinkle, when plans are devised to entrap others.

The phrase translated to; ``WHEN HEARTS REACH THE THROAT'' is an Arabic proverb, implying that they were so fearful and frightened that all their functions were choked up with terror and anguish.
