The origin of Fatir is “Fatar” and means to split or cleaving asunder in length as said in Verse 1 of Surah Infitar “ When the sky is cleft asunder” This term is often used for milking the goat, opening the fast and creating something without any previous example. As we say that the screen of darkness and decadence has been cleft asunder and the created comes forth into the world.

Baree’ is derived from the word Borra it means to recuperate from sickness or be rid of something unpleasant. It was then used to mean a creator who can create without premeditation. Some say that the origin of the word is Bari or planning wood and this in turn means to make the wood smooth for use. This meaning can be taken for God because He has created everything usable. Some say it is used to denote He who has created everything without a previous example.

The origin of the word Faaliq is “falq” and it means to split something, or cleaving one part from another. It is used for the harvesting of grapes or vegetables where the plants cleave the soil asunder to come forth.

The advent of a sapling from the earth is the most sensitive and beautiful part of creation. It is like the birth of child from the mother’s womb. This is the advent of a very beautiful birth of one creation from one world to another. Who is it that has given such a power for the sapling to split the seed asunder and then to cleave the earth to come forth in this world? It is like the infant that rested in the mother’s womb and its darkness and then comes out of it into the world.

Bada’ is the origin of the word Badee’ as we have mentioned earlier and it actually means to create something without a preset example. At times it is used for a well freshly dug and word Bida’t is used for extempore work that has no precedent in religion.

When this word is used for God it means the creation of things without the dependence on tools, time and place. This can be said for God only. The word Badee’ is an attribute of similarity and the proof is that it is established for God. (1)

Mosawwir has originated from Surat means the physical des c r i p tion of anything and its plural is “Suwar’. The “Surat” can be of two kinds, one that can be seen like the body of the human or animals and other material creation. Imaginations and also the intellectual meaning of things. The word ‘Mosawwir’ means the designer or the fashioner. It is used for God to denote the shapes and bodies that He has given to His creations.

Some linguists opine that it means to alter, change or amend something. Surat they say means shape and size and in Aramaic it originates from the word “Swarah”.

1. The word has been described in lisan-ol-Arab, Attahqeeq, and Maqayis ol Lughata which says it means the decay of material bodies also.
