The Day the Skies will scatter like clouds The Day the earth too will splitThe Day of Changing of the earth and the heavens

This term too has come only once in the Qura’n in verse 9 of Surah Tur. This is before the promulgation of God’s punishment and nothing can defer it. The verse says:

“On the day the heaven will shake with a dreadful shaking.”

And then adds:

“And the mountains will move away (with a horrible movement)

There different meanings of the word “Mor” according to the linguists it is:

A circular movement, a wave, a great speed, movement to and fro; and a dust that the wind carries away. (1)

The best meaning here is a rapid movement and this may denote the rapid movement to the core of the universe at the time of destruction of the universe as mentioned in the previous pages.

This may also be depicting the circular and pulsating movement which shows the expansion and contraction of the world.

Fakhruddin Razi explains this verse as:

The sentence “the mountains will move rapidly” is an explanation for the movement of the skies it is like the situation when a person moves fast along the banks of a river in a boat and it seems that the land and trees are moving. In the same way on that day, when the mountains and mankind will begin to move rapidly it will seem that the skies are moving. (2)
