The belief in the hereafter and contentmentExplanations

We find this echoed not only in the verses of the Qura’n but also in the Islamic traditions.

And this results in a perpetual and deep relationship. Read the following traditions as examples for this:

“By God! I prefer to pass my night over the sharp thorns of the Sadan (1) tree rather than to meet God and the Holy Prophet on the Day of Judgment as a tyrant who has persecuted any person or as usurper who has confiscated the property of others.” (2)

After saying these words the Amirul Muminin narrates the famous incident about his brother Aqeel who came to him in dire need and asked to be paid some excess money against the rules of the Central Fund.

The Imam heated a piece of iron and took it near his brother but when he screamed (seeing it red hot) the Imam said, “You cannot bear this heated piece of Iron which a person has heated without the intention of burning you and you want to draw me to the fire which the mighty God has inflamed with his displeasure.”(3)

The mighty belief in the resurrection and the implementation of divine justice can be seen clearly against the backdrop of sins and denials and it is the great and living evidence of the positive effect of the belief in divine justice and the Day of Judgment.

The Imam said:

“He who is sure of getting a return is generous in giving to others.”

Ghararal Hakam has a clearer statement from the Imam that says: “Leave your sadness and woes on the Day of Judgment so that you may become pious” (4)

Imam Hussein addressed his companions on the Day of Ashura:

“Be steadfast O miraculous sons! Because martyrdom is the bridge that delivers you from hardships and pains to Paradise and its ever lasting bounties in the vast garden. Who amongst you is reluctant to be released from this jail into the palace of ever lasting peace?”

Imam Hussein spoke this when they were tightly encircled by the enemy. The hardships of the battlefield had increased but the faces were radiant and they were clam.

His followers used to smile and point to another and say:

“See he does not worry about death and he has no fear”

When the Imam heard these words then after giving the above speech he said:

“ My father narrates from the Holy Messenger: “ This world is the prison for the true believer and a Paradise for the disbeliever and death is the bridge for the first group towards Paradise but for the second it is the bridge that leads to Hell ( This is a fact) I never speak a lie nor have I been lied to.” (5)

The tragedy of Kerbala that is inscribed in golden letters in history and if you want to unravel the mystery of the unparalleled bravery of the Imam’s companions then you should look for their certitude in the hereafter.

The effect of the belief in resurrection is so evident on the deeds that Amirul Muminin Imam Ali expresses surprise on a person who believes in the hereafter but does not try to better his deeds. (6)

We end this discussion with the words of the founder of Islam the Last Messenger. He defined the signs of those with certitude and says:

“They believe in Paradise and this is why they are so eager (to attain it with their good deeds). They believe in Hell and so try to avoid it (thus they do not reach for sins) they believe that the accounting of the Day of Judgment is justice and so they always self recriminate (before they are to stand for the accounts) (7)

They are umpteen Hadith in this regard and what we have mentioned above is just a fraction of it. These entire Hadith stand to educate mankind who believe in the hereafter and leave a great impact of such persons.
