The Proof of fearing DeathThe Angels who confiscate the souls

The believers and the unjust, the good and the bad are separated at the very moment of death and are subject to varying conditions. In other words the result of their deeds and intentions slowly begin to manifest. The 4th and the 5th verses tell us about this very meaningfully.

It is first said:

““They (the sinners) are those lives that the angels take in a state where they wrong their own souls; then they submit “We did no evil knowingly”

This tells us that they had not actually submitted themselves totally but they did not know that God knows all the hidden secrets and the angels are His irrefutable witnesses. So in the end the verse says:

“Yes God is aware of all that you did.”

And then they are ordered as described in verse 29 of Surah Nahl;

“So enter the gates of Hell and live there in eternally.”

Now we understand that whatever submission was done was to express the belief in Tawhid and to bow before the true God.

But since the greed and lust still had a hold on them they are unaware of the laws in the hereafter and they deny their past sins while they try to be crafty but they will soon learn that this is not the place for perjury.

The Hell mentioned here is the Hell in purgatory or the Hell in the Day of Judgment. There are two views regarding this. It is better to enter Hell than the period of death even the idea of staying there forever is portrayed for the Hell in the Day of Judgment. But if it is said that they will enter the gates of Hell in purgatory and not in the actual Hell and the everlasting stay is for the disbelievers at the time of entering the door way rather then than the Doors of Purgatory.

“No! But God is aware of what you did”

These may be the words of the angels in the verse who were warning them (not to deny their previous sins) because God’s unlimited knowledge will remove the screen of secrecy from your deeds.

Verse 27 of Surah Muhammad says:

“Then how will it be when the angels confiscate their soul at their death, smiting their faces and their backs?”

Yes the angels will welcome them by raining punches on their faces and their backs and this may be the reason (seeing this treatment) that they will admit the truth and not because of sincerity.

Then opposed to them are the angels of mercy who confiscate the souls of the true believers as mentioned in another verse:

““They are those whose life the angels take in a state of purity telling them “Peace be upon you; enter the garden because of what you did.”

There can be no better reward than the angels welcoming them with praises and invite them to enter Paradise, an invitation full of respect and love.

It is possible here that this may be the Paradise in purgatory or the Paradise of the Day of Judgment since the Paradise of purgatory is regarded as the gateway of the greater Paradise.

This is one of the scenes or sides of death which portrays opposite treatment of the pious and the sinners.
