Explanation of the VersesSources of the knowledge of the Apostles of God

The word “Ghaib” or the unseen is opposite of the word “Shahud’ the seen, is about those events that contain what can be sensed and seen. So the word Ghaib is used for all those hidden deeds which are related to human conscience. In some of the verses of Qura’n we find the des c r i p tion as the belief in God and the hereafter. Verse 3 of Surah Baqarah says:

“Who believe in the unseen and establish the prayers and they spend from what We have provided them.”

In the other instances the Qura’n describes the capabilities of the righteous. Verse 49 of Surah Anbiya says:

“And those who fear their Unseen Lord and the Hour (of doom) are frightened.”

It also includes things that may be sensed by one person but may not be sensed by another. This is because of not being present. This is why the word Ghaib is used for not being present. We find this is the story of Joseph when the wife of the Minister of Egypt certified his infallibility in his absence by saying as described in verse 52 of Surah Yusuf:

“This (the inquiry I caused) that he (the king) might know that I have not been unfaithful to him in his absence and that God does not guide the guile of the unfaithful ones.”

After saying this about the apostles of God are the apostles more aware of the secrets of the unseen and the hidden deeds more than other humans (This includes those for sensing other than that which is present) Is the knowledge of the unseen connected with God? This knowledge of the unseen cannot be with any other?

In the first view we discern from the Qura’nic verses that this may be of two kinds. In the first kind the knowledge of the unseen is attributed to God and in the second it is said that the knowledge of the unseen may come from some other source too. It is imperative to study the above verses to be able to give the answer to these queries and then we will discuss them.

But to study the first it is important that we reflect upon the following verses:

1. Verse 59 of Surah Anam:

“And with Him are the keys of the unseen treasures none knows them but He.”

2. Verse 20 of Surah Yunus:

“And they say,” Why is not a sign sent to him from his Lord?” say, “Verily the unseen is only for God.”

3. Verse 65 of Surah Naml:

“Say No one in the heavens and the earth knows the unseen save God and they do not know when they shall be raised.”

“The unseen is only for God”

4. Verse 50 of Surah Anam:

“I do not tell you that I have with me the treasures of God nor do I know the unseen.”

5. Verse 188 of Surah A’raf:

“And Had I known the unseen I would have had much of the good and no evil would have touched me”

 6. Verse 73 of Surah Anam:

“And He it is who has created the heavens and the earth with truth; and on the day He says: Be, it is.”
