Quran,Translation and Commentary in Brief (Vol. 06)
Verses 5-12Verses 1-4

VERSE No.1-4
The previous chapter was ended in the plural noun of ``STARS=NOJOOM'' and this one begins with the singular noun, ``STAR=NAJM'' by which God has sworn.
The Arabic, AL-NAJM, literally means star, but commentators have applied it to various connotations such as:-Quran, Mohammad (SA), Pleiades and etc.
Pleiades is the six stars that form a dipper like figure in the constellation TAURUS.
The group represents the seven daughters of Atlas in Greek mythology, one of whom hid herself in shame. The pleiades cluster comprising these and hundred of telescopic stars, is an open cluster about 4 light-years from the earth. Many of the stars are surrounded by nebular clouds of interstellar dust.
Some commentators have taken ``NAJM'' to refer to the shooting-stars that die away by burning in the atmosphere.
We are of opinion that none of the four mentioned comments are clearly reasonable and that God has sworn by all the stars throughout the universe; the greatness of which has no limit.
By your, ``COMPANION''in the next verse, our holy prophet, Mohammad MostafÌ (SA) is meant, who lived all his life among them. During his youth, they gave him the glorious title of, ``TRUSTWORTHY=AMIN'' for the excellent and unique virtue he had. Up to his fortieth year of age he was the most honoured man among his people. As soon as he was inspired with God's Message and blamed the tribe of QURAISH the offspring of Abraham, for their IDOLATRY and worshipping some stones that that they had carved with their own hands; the pagan began to accuse him of being misled or deceived by evil spirit. They charged him with madness, being a poet, or possessed! They accused him of speaking out of impulses and selfish desire.
