HE RAISED UP THE SKY
VERSE NO.7-13
Here again mention of the various bounties, and the favours of God, to Man has been continued:-
``And the sky-He raised it up and settled the BALANCE.''
The Arabic, ``SAMAE'' translated to, ``sky'' may refer to the upper atmosphere, usually with reference to cloudiness. It refers to the apparant blue arch or the firmament. It is all space seen when one looks upwards from the earth. It may also mean all the celestial bodies that we see over head; such as the moon, the sun, and the stars.
Whatever we take it to mean, the sky is full of benefits for Mankind, and all the creatures: The light and heat radiations that we receive on the earth; its protecting quality that protects the living creatures against meteors, shooting stars, or any celestial body that enters the earth. When the body or stone of whatever, enters the atmosphere, it becomes red hot and glowing by the resistance of the air,or the phenomenon which is known as friction, which generates heat. The heat genereated thus is so high that turns the body into ashes up there, and nothing of its mass will reach the earth to harm.
The sky is also a source of other kinds of bounties such as the rain, snow, wind and other natural phenomena. It also includes so many signs of God's infinite knowlege, power and wisdom.
The Arabic, ``ALMIZAN'' too, has many shades of meanings all of which may apply in the above verses. The word may mean, BALANCE-SCALE-JUSTICE-LAW- and any means of determining a value. It also in cases may refer to an innocent Imam or the Glorious QurÌn.
``And He established the balance in order that you may not exceed the bounds, and establish weight with justice.''
If we ponder over the twelve bounties that are mentioned in the above verse, such as-the creation of Man-the faculty of speech-the prevalence of calculated balance and mathematical law in the nature-creation of the earth and its sky-creation of trees-plants-fruits, flowers and herbs and...! Such a pondering would be enough to guide us to our Creator, and to make us grateful to him:-
``Then which one of the bounties of your Lord do you deny??''
The interrogative phrase, ``Do you then deny?'' is addressed to both group of Man and Jin. It implies failing to acknowledge, either in word, thought or conduct. Denying such evident favours as mentioned above is a clear sign of being ignorant and ungrateful, the consequence of which is to lose God's infinite Mercy and Grace for nothing!
