verse 12-13verse 11

OCCASION OF REVELATION
VERSE NO. 11
There was a platform at the enterance of the prophet's Mosque (it still exists).
In a Friday, the prophet and his companions sat on that platform for a discussion. The place was more crowded than it could contain. Then there came a group of those honourable believers who had attended the battle of Badr. Among them were some of the elders. The prophet expected some of the young Moslims to give their place to the most reverend ones who had come later, but no one moved to give a way to them! It seemed no good to the prophet and ordered some of them to get up and give their place to the elders and reverend ones who came later. Then, the hypocrites reproached the prophet for not observing justice and equality. So the above verse was revealed to teach Moslims how to behave in their gatherings and to esteem the elders and leaders.
In the Doctrine of Islam, a man of high dignity and a layman; a negro slave and a Quraish commander are all human being and equal in rank, in the sight of God; except for their virtue and piety. Therefore, when a new comer enters an assembly, we need not to press together or sit on the lap of the nearers. God's earth is vast and extensive, and we should spread out and prepare enough room for all who are to join.
When the narrowness of a place is inevitable to suffer, then the elders and leaders have every reason to sit in their deserved and right place.
