Hajj is one of the important pillars of Islam and one of the greatest acts of worship in the religion. The holy Quran has emphasized the importance of the Hajj pilgrimage in a short, yet profound verse:
وَ لِلّه عَلَى النّاسِ حِجُّ الْبَیْتِ مَنِ اسْتَطاعَ اِلَیْهِ سَبیلاً؛ وَ مَنْ کَفَرَ فَاِنَّ اللّهَ غَنِىٌّ عَنِ الْعالَمینَ
“And it is a duty of men toward Allah to make pilgrimage to the House,- those who can afford the journey to it; and should ayone reject (and abandon the Hajj, it will be to their own loss), Allah is indeed without need of all creatures.”
There are many rules to this great pillar of Islam which all Hajj pilgrims must be aware of and abide by. In order to provide religious services to the respectable pilgrims, the office of Grand Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi sends a group of scholars to represent his eminence in Saudi Arabia during the Hajj season. They will establish offices in Mecca and Medina with the purpose of answering the religious questions of the Hajj pilgrims as well as the clerics who accompany each group of pilgrims.
Previously, and at the beginning of the arrival of pilgrims in Saudi Arabia, his eminence’s office was only established in the holy city of Medina; however, as the Hajj season draws nearer, and more pilgrims are going to travel to the holy city of Medina to begin their Hajj rituals, his eminence’s office has opened a branch in Mecca as well.
